Investigations
This part of my digital portfolio will highlight some of the activities or investigations that we do in our math/physics class.
"Lights Out" Challenge
For this activity, we were given the scenario of two friends in a cave with no flashlight. The lights were about to go out and we had to create a flashlight out of the ordinary objects found in their backpack. From this activity, I learned that it truly is not that hard to create a flashlight from everyday objects. It was interesting to see how each group used the everyday objects to ultimately get the same outcome. My group attached our circuit to a pencil so it would be portable like a flashlight.
Conversion Olympics
The Conversion Olympics was a series of challenges in which we had to convert units to solve a problem. Some of the tasks included; convert the weight of a handful of beans from __ to __, convert the size of your foot from __ to __, and convert the volume of three sponges full of water in the tube from ___ to ___. This activity really helped me master conversions with a little competitive twist. My group did very well in the Olympics, and we won some of the challenges.
Barbie Bungee Lab
In the Barbie Bungee Lab, we split into groups of four and were each assigned one Barbie Doll. For this activity, we had to predict how many rubber bands we needed to attach to Barbie in order for her to come as close to the ground as possible without hitting it when we dropped her off the stairs of High Tech High Media Arts. In order to make our predictions, we had to first measure how far our Barbie Doll went with one rubber band, two rubber bands, three, etc in our classroom. This was an essential part of our prediction because if we were even a centimeter off, Barbie could smash into the ground. This activity taught me about how to create and interpret linear equations.
