Flower Art
For the flower art project, we picked flowers from around Liberty Station and then arranged them on a wooden board however we wished. The only requirement was that we had to incorporate a circle in our art piece. I used modge podge to secure the flowers and I pressed the flowers on the outer edges and the leaves to make them lay flat.
Final "Shelfie" Project
Nature Book
We filled our Nature Books with art pieces inspired by the Transcendentalists. The Transcendentalists believed that nature was to be idolized and worshipped, and thus most of their art contained various aspects of nature.
Liberty Station Watercolors
For the Liberty Station watercolors, we watercolored nature in three different perspectives: close, middle ground, and far. (The palm tree was meant to be my middle ground, but ultimately it became another close perspective).
Nature Drawings
We drew one pencil, one pen, and one watercolor of a live plant/piece of nature, and drew one pencil, one pen, and one watercolor of pieces of nature from photos.
Atmospheric Perspective Lesson
For the Atmospheric Perspective lesson we first watercolored an imaginative landscape with whatever technique we knew (trying to make it as realistic as possible). Then we had a lesson on atmospheric perspective (how to show distance in paintings) and tried watercoloring a new imaginative landscape with the techniques we had just learned.
Rose Drawing
The rose drawing was our first attempt at drawing nature. We drew roses from the garden near our school and then added a whimsical, Transcendentalist-like thought somewhere in our drawing.
Shelf Monster
For the shelf monster project, we created the monsters from our stories in creative writing in 3D sculpture form. My story is called "Wethersfield Worries" and features a tree-like monster. I began my building process by first designing my monster in Photoshop. From there, I brought it to life with newspaper, wire, and a paper towel roll.
Derivative Monster
For the Derivative Monster, we chose pre-existing characters and manipulated them by using both photoshop and hand drawing. My original character was Pascal, the chameleon from Disney's Tangled, and I added human feet, Charmander's tail, spikey teeth, and a party hat. I started by finding the images on google and placing them where I wanted in Photoshop. From there, I printed my image and traced it with pencil and pen. Then I scanned my image into the computer and colored it in Photoshop to create my final product.
Boogeyman Representation
We read Boogeyman by Stephen King in our creative writing class, and then created a representation of what we believed the boogeyman from King's story to look like in art.
Surrealism Book (3)
What is Surrealism? //Surrealist Quote
Abstract Surrealism
Inspired by Wangechi Mutu, we created abstract surrealist pieces by mixing handdrawn/painted art with magazine cutouts.
Surrealist Story Art
We created short, surrealist style stories in our creative writing class, and then created a piece of cover art for our story using any of the methods we have experimented with within surrealism. My story is about a world in which doing good deeds gets you more arms. Olivia, a young teen, has done good deed after good deed, but finds she is unable to grow the third arm she so desperately desires. After a visit from her grandfather's ghost, she realizes that in order to help others, she first needs to help herself.

Partner Painting
For the partner painting, we grabbed a sheet of paper and took turns making doodles. I started some doodles, and then passed the sheet to my partner Mandalyn Kime. She added some doodles onto mine, and then passed it back to me. We continued with this until we were satisfied with our collection of doodles.
Echo Poem
For the echo poem, we picked one of the poems we had previously read in class and then created our own poems by reacting line by line to the original poem. The idea of writing down your gut reaction was typical with surrealist artists. I reacted to "If I Should Have A Daughter" by Sarah Kay.
Poem Analysis
We analyzed surrealist poems by picking them apart stanza by stanza in order to identify the poet's message.
Digital Surrealist Photo
For this project, we took photos of ourselves and used Photoshop to morph the photos with other objects in a Surrealist fashion.
Magazine Surrealist Photo
Dada Poem
For the Dada Poem, I cut out interesting words from magazines and then strung them together into a poem. This was a way to imitate how Dada poets worked: they cut up newspaper or magazine articles, put the words into a bag, and then pulled out words at random to create a poem.
Shelf Project
For the shelf project, we each were tasked with designing, creating, and decorating our own shelves.
Basquiat Book (2)
Trademark Phrase + Image
My image is of my go-to doodle: a little flower made up of six circles. My phrase is the word "if" because I am known to ask many "What if...?" questions.

5 Basquiat Style Thoughts/Realizations/Observations
Define Something That Remains Undefined
Basquiat was famous for creating words to describe things that didn't have a word already assigned to them, so we created our own words for undefined things.
30 Words That Surround You
For this project, we made a list of 30 words or phrases we hear often in our daily lives. From there, we translated the words artistically onto paper in Basquiat fashion.
"I Know One Day..." +Basquiat Doodles
For this project, we recreated Basquiat's "I Know One Day.." poem.
Basquiat Style Portrait Reproduction
For this project we recreated famous pieces of art in a Basquiat style. I recreated Andy Warhol's portrait of Marilyn Monroe. We wrote three line poems to represent our image.
Basquiat Painting
We recreated small pieces of famous Basquiat paintings.
Twisted Logo
For the logo project we recreated popular logos, and then "twisted" them in some way. I chose to combine the Dunkin Donuts logo with the American flag -- take from it what you will. I intended it to have multiple meanings or interpretations. We also created an anagram for the slogan of the company. Dunkin Donuts' slogan is "America Runs on Dunkin" and I turned it into "Scum and inane rancour".
Who Am I? Book (1)
Self Portraits
For this project, we began by selecting a photo of ourselves. From there, we traced the photo with pencil and shaded various parts to create dimension and make it more realistic. Once we were satisfied with our shaded rendition, we traced our photo again with a pen onto tracing paper. With this technique, we aimed to create a rendition of our photo as simple as possible - with just basic outlines so we were identifiable.
"Raised by..." Poem
For the "Raised by..." poems, we read "Raised by Women" by Kelly Norman Ellis, and then created our own poems about where we come from. We then pasted our poems into our art notebooks, and I decided to collage the background.
